Profile...

Linda MerrickLinda Merrick has established an international profile as a clarinet soloist, recording artist and clinician. She specialises in contemporary repertoire and has been at the forefront of generating new works for her instrument by British composers for the last 15 years. During this period she has performed all over the world and has made numerous recordings, many of which are available on CD.


Linda successfully combines her high-level performing career with
work in HE, where she is currently Deputy Vice-Principal at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). She is active in the field of research, contributing through her pioneering work with electronics, innovative recording projects and collaborative work with composers.

Research Interests

Her particular areas of research interest are Electroacoustic Music, American Minimal Music (upon which she wrote her MMus dissertation), Contemporary Clarinet Reportoire and Extended Performance Techniques for Woodwind. The topic for her PhD dissertation was ‘Collaboration between Performers and Composers: The British Clarinet Concerto 1990-2000’, completed in Spring 2004.
